It’s been a long week on a lot of fronts and my mind just didn’t have the fortitude to take on any “tough” questions for this blog but instead I offer you a little hope that the long hard winter (for a
good # of us anyway) is slowly coming to a close.
If you’ve made it this far through the winter unscathed, give yourself a pat on the back! For those fairly newish to recovery, you are already dealing with the stress and anxiety caused by facing all of those emotions and feelings that come to light now that you are no longer self-medicating them away. Now add to that the challenges of a long, cold, snowy winter with its associated short days, and you have even more reasons to feel like your battle is on a slippery slope.
Then there’s all of those credit card bills left over from the holidays and extra heating costs so you might have added financial stress on top of it!
Take a deep breath and understand that this stuff affects more people than not. I mean there are those folks who seem to have a sunny disposition no matter what but honestly, they are the exception rather than the rule. All you have to do to see the truth of that is look at the faces of the people waiting in lines with their milk and eggs as they fight the masses in advance of yet another monstrous snow storm.
So just hang in there guys, the sun will make its appearance earlier and earlier and decide to hang around a little bit longer day by day. The thermometer will inch its way up and the birds with sound a little chirpier. The problems and challenges of life won’t disappear but you
will have a little bit more oomph to get through it.
Keep striving, learning and persevering and you will be rewarded for your efforts with sunnier days and hopefully a disposition to match it.
