the good, the bad and the ugly. It’s a matter of what you do with them.
Here’s the thing with resentments….
We ALL have them to some degree or another. It's human nature so why deny it. The thing is to not let them consume you and walk around pissed off at the world 24/7. Sure you can do that but ultimately it's a shitty way to live. You don't have to forgive people who did shitty things to you but to constantly dwell on it is like being in an AA meeting constantly reliving your sinful past. Case in point, when I got separated, my ex-wife did her best to make sure my kids heard every negative, mean and spiteful thing she could about me. She was pissed and hurt by my dependency and I get that but she was over the top in turning them against me. Do I forgive her for that? Not so much! But do I carry it around with me all the time? No, I don't have time for that. I honestly don't think much about her at all to be honest with you. Now, if she were to now reach
out to my kids and tell them that she was being a super bitch and that her intent was to mess up our relationships, that she was wrong to do so and that they should put that in perspective in remembering that time period, then maybe I'd lighten up in my dislike for her, maybe not because it isn't likely to happen anyway-LOL. Forgiveness has to be earned but even then, it does not have to be accepted. I'm drifting off point but again, resentments are real and natural but I just think it's healthier not to give them that much weight or power in your present existence.
So what to do with your anger towards AA? Well first of all you should learn as much as possible about why AA is such a horrible venue in terms of overcoming one’s dependencies so that you can process said anger. A good place to gain that knowledge is of course by reading “The Freedom to Recover” :->
Then, if you’re so inclined, help get the word out by commenting on articles on the internet that support the craziness or get involved in the debate on some of the recovery websites.
Have a great weekend everybody!
