Sorry for no posts the last few weeks. It's been really busy in Rolf-land with the holidays, trying to finish the novel and about a million other things going on.
Anyway, this kid was on one of the recovery forums spouting out about how AA "saved him" and that we
just didn't "get it." I told him we got it all right and then offered this advice........
Maybe it was simply that time for you and AA HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. You aren't diseased, you don't have "character defects" other than being a fairly normal kid who was a bit of a rebel without a cause.
I was that kid too but I also had other issues so I didn't grow out of it and get over it for a really, really long time. So if you have other issues, learn living/coping skills to deal with those and you'll be fine. AA doesn't teach you ANYTHING useful in those areas. Messages of powerlessness, surrender, group think, lifetime disease, character defects, etc....will JUST FUCK YOU UP......
Good luck man :-) You'll be fine if you get and stay the F out of the rooms."
Hopefully after reading my comment and those of some of the other folks, Kyle will realize that he's not
powerless and that he shouldn't "surrender" his will or his life to anyone or anything. Maybe he'll realize
that he doesn't have to live life "recovering" for eternity.......Fingers crossed!
